Jeff Kofman and his colleagues have developed an already near-perfect tool for handling transcription. I’ve been using it with New Zealand accented audio and the accuracy of transcription is amazing. But on top of this, the platform’s editing and export options are supremely usable and useful. If Trint keeps getting better it will set a new professional standard in this niche, where it’s already so much better than anything else around. Every so often a game-changer comes along. Trint is one of those. Daniel (New Zealand, Professor & Educational Coach/Consultant). Date of experience:

Overall:
We tried three different transcription services: Rev, Descript and Trint. Trint was the worst by a long shot and the most expensive. We tested them all first because we need fast and accurate transcripts. You can do this as well. Upload a file with multiple speakers in all three and check the results. Rev is the most accurate, it differentiates between speakers and has global cleanup (ripple changing speakers throughout the document, amalgamating speakers, etc) Rev also puts transcripts into paragraphs. Descript is more accurate then Trint but not nearly as good as Rev. And Rev’s human transcriptions are faster, cheaper and more accurate than Trint as well.Trint costs $75/month, Rev is $29/month. Descript is $24/month but doesn’t have the same tools as Rev or Trint, although it does interface with some editing systems. And Rev offers a pay as you go whereas the other two do not have this option. This is great because if you’re working on an intense project and then nothing you can do a month or two. If you’re working on a small project and just need a few transcripts, pay as you go is a better option. If you need a LOT of transcripts and great tools for editing, Rev is way better and you’ll save money going for an annual subcription.Overall, Rev is just so much more accurate and it’s way more cost effective.
Pros:
Not much, to be honest. The customer service is pretty good (they write you back when you have problems).
Cons:
1) it can’t differentiate between speakers very well at all2) it puts an entire transcript into one long piece, not paragraph breaks (even when there are two second pauses between sections3) it takes longer to do automatic transcripts that its counterparts (very slow compared to its competitors)4) it’s the most expensive transcription service online we’ve ever found (double or triple in most cases)5) the interface and search tools are clumsy6) the navigation on the site in not intuitive (takes a long time to learn where things are)7) many of the tools are awkward to use or non-sensical in how they work
Reasons for Choosing Trint :
We did not. It was the worst of all we tested.

What do you like best about Trint?
The best part about Trint is being able to transcribe any files that you have. There is not a limit on the amount that you can transcribe per month, which is great. I love being able to click a word on my transcription and be able to listen to the audio file in real-time as well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What do you dislike about Trint?
There’s not much that comes to mind! I’ve tried so many transcription services that are so limiting and Trint does such a fabulous job! The platform could be updated a bit to improve the user experience a bit to make it more modern, but other than that, the platform is amazing! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What problems is Trint solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being able to pull out direct quotes in long meetings to turn into marketing material and messaging. It’s helpful to be able to listen to a meeting or webinar instead of intensively trying to take notes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Trint?
We rely on Trint to help us work smarter and not harder. I like how easy it is to use and how accurately it transcribes our interviews. Working on transcripts can be tedious, but this significantly reduces the time it takes to edit our work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What do you dislike about Trint?
Compared to a transcription service, Trint requires additional editing on the back-end, but that hasn’t been an issue for us. It would be helpful if Trint could remove repeated phrases or words that don’t contribute meaning/weight to the text: ok, right?, you know, etc. We’re satisfied overall and definitely would recommend this product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What problems is Trint solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being able to upload interviews into Trint and receiving the transcript saves significant time and allows me to focus on other work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Overall:
I’m a PhD candidate (in my final year) and a qualitative researcher. I heard about Trint from a fellow PhD student. I use interviews as the main basis for my research and it’s incredible to be able to get a draft transcript back from Trint in minutes. Editing of the text is needed to pick up subtle inaccuracies but the interface for doing that work is very easy to use. In the two years I’ve been using Trint, the accuracy has improved substantially, meaning I now spend less time editing. Other improvements too over the past two years have substantially enhanced my work.
Pros:
Intuitive platform, high degree of accuracy, good customer support.
Cons:
An optional spelling checker would be great but it’s a minor quibble, because the benefits of using this technology far outweigh minor inconveniences. The cost is high for a full-time student but the value is priceless.

For me, Trint has been like having a goto virtual assistant. We record video podcasts, webinars, trainings and edit them for our clients, and we are also asked to edit older content and make it “new content”.
Using Trint has been immensely helpful.
We’ll also use Trint it to transcribe our own content brainstorming sessions which allows us the freedom to let our thoughts flow, and then go back and edit it into content. Date of experience:

As a journalist, podcast host, and author, I don’t know how I ever functioned before Trint.com. It has saved me 100s of hours of trying to transcribe my interviews. More importantly, with Trint, I don’t have to be distracted by taking copious notes. I am able to focus on what my sources are saying, then quickly review my “notes” on Trint. Most amazing of all, I can click anywhere on the transcript and immediately hear the audio at that exact spot. Date of experience:

What do you like best about Trint?
I’ve been using Trint for about 4 years. Often, the individuals I interview have international accents — not your typical Midwestern drawl. But Trint often understands words that I wasn’t able to listening to the actual audio. That has really impressed me and made my job a lot easier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What do you dislike about Trint?
We have some industry terms that are used frequently that Trint doesn’t know, so I always have to change them. I wish there was an AI aspect that — once I’ve changed it once or twice — would automatically begin to recognize those terms. Trint sometimes has trouble recognizing the different speaker voices if more than 1 person is in the recorded conversation, so I have to change the speaker name frequently when reviewing a transcript. That’s annoying but not usually a big problem. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What problems is Trint solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a writer, I do a lot of interviews. I “grew up” taking notes and having to go back and relisten to my recordings to ensure I got the quote correct. Now, I can concentrate on listening to the speaker, asking questions, and then letting Trint do the transcription. It saves so many hours of my time. It’s hard for me to imagine doing an interview any other way. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Trint?
Trint can seem really expensive, relative to other transcription services but it’s genuinely worth every cent, to me. I’m a freelance journalist and in some ways it’s an insane luxury item to be paying for but I’d say I can do twice or maybe three times the amount of work I could without Trint, by using it. Even just being able to throw files into it to come back to, knowing that they’re organised and searchable, means I can make so much more of every interview I get. Takes every car launch or 4-hour presentation and turns it into something I can reference back to easily, especially as something I can carry on my mobile phone. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What do you dislike about Trint?
Some of the interface can be slightly clunky but it’s mostly that I use it so much I get muscle memory of how to do things and then am surprised by something moving. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What problems is Trint solving and how is that benefiting you?
It solves the problem of transcription being incredibly laborious and time-consuming or a very expensive thing to pay someone else to do. It lets me deliver work faster and using more of the audio information I have. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Pros:
I work professionally as a video editor, and we regularly need to transcribe videos, and then use the transcriptions to create subtitles for our videos. This software is fantastic for just this, and significantly cuts down on the time it takes to create those subtitles. Once Trint has transcribed the audio or video file you have uploaded, you can export a txt file that can be directly imported into a SubCap effect in Avid. As long as you’ve set the Timecode alignment correctly in Trint, the subtitles will align perfectly with the video in the Avid timeline. Saves me SO much time.
Cons:
I use Avid Media Composer for editing, and it took a bit of trial and error to understand the correct file type and settings I needed to select in Trint that would import seamlessly into the SubCap effect in Avid. But once I figured it out, I knew what I needed to use going forward. There also does seem to be some sort of glitch where occasionally random lines are missing from the captions in the Avid timeline, but I’m unclear as of right now as to whether I can attribute this to Trint or Avid. It’s a minor error and overall I LOVE this software!

What do you like best about Trint?
I like the ability to slow down recordings or speed them up so I can make corrections easier. I also like that clicking somewhere in the transcription automatically takes the audio to that part of the recording. I wish it could pick up lower voices or mumbled words better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What do you dislike about Trint?
Sometimes after I set speaker one and speaker 2, it jumbles them up later in the document as I edit transcriptions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What problems is Trint solving and how is that benefiting you?
in the end, it isn’t accurate enough to solve my problem because it takes the same amount of time editing the transcriptions as it would take to type up my narratives. I still like using it because it includes timestamps, and I can take the transcription and edit it for the essential parts only. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Overall

If you’re in need of a transcription tool, Trint stands out for its intuitive interface and ability to save you time on transcription and editing tasks. Many highlight the accuracy with different accents and the range of export formats as valuable features. However, you should be ready to handle some challenges; its pricing might feel steep, and you could face occasional accuracy issues, especially with multi-speaker or non-English content. Issues with speaker differentiation and customer support have been noted, leading to some frustration around subscriptions and navigation. Overall, Trint provides significant benefits, particularly for efficient transcription, but balances these with a few hurdles that might affect your experience. The overall sentiment leans toward positive, with a few caution areas to consider.
