I have cancelled my subscription with Trent having completed my project. However I wanted to say thank you to the company for your very efficient, flexible and time saving product. My project involved interviewing 56 activists from the 70’s, 80’s and beyond. Some of these interviews were more than 5 hours in length. Without Trint I could not have succeeded.
When my husband died last October after a dreadful accident and I was left to continue the project alone, I was helped enormously by your staff. The advice to move to a yearly account and the compassion and understanding in the communications were much appreciated and contributed to my capacity to go on. I will be recommending Trint to others and will certainly rejoin if another oral history project comes my way. I am happy for my words to be used in any promotions.

Trint has been a great service for transcribing my research interviews. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is that it still struggles with correctly translating some English accents I’ve worked with. Most notably, it often gets Irish accents wrong on key words that may change the meaning of a sentence completely. So I still need to work through each transcript quite carefully. As a journalist, podcast host, and author, I don’t know how I ever functioned before Trint.com. It has saved me 100s of hours of trying to transcribe my interviews. More importantly, with Trint, I don’t have to be distracted by taking copious notes. I am able to focus on what my sources are saying, then quickly review my “notes” on Trint. It’s hard to review Trint because the transcription itself and speed are pretty good, but the payment options are terrible. There are months when I transcribe 30 minutes of audio and others when I transcribe several hours worth, but in both cases I pay the same amount. I’ve sadly decided to leave Trint and use another service because of this. If the company went back to the old structure with multiple payment options, I would gladly stay. It’s too bad! Second to none transcription in my two main languages (English and French). Its ability to transcribe cpations is great too. All-in-one tool, no need to go to Premiere for subtitles, more convenient than word for basic audio transcription, does a wonderful job of identifying speakers. I work professionally as a video editor, and we regularly need to transcribe videos, and then use the transcriptions to create subtitles fo...
Pros:
I work professionally as a video editor, and we regularly need to transcribe videos, and then use the transcriptions to create subtitles for our videos. This software is fantastic for just this, and significantly cuts down on the time it takes to create those subtitles. Once Trint has transcribed the audio or video file you have uploaded, you can export a txt file that can be directly imported into a SubCap effect in Avid. As long as you’ve set the Timecode alignment correctly in Trint, the subtitles will align perfectly with the video in the Avid timeline. Saves me SO much time.
Cons:
I use Avid Media Composer for editing, and it took a bit of trial and error to understand the correct file type and settings I needed to select in Trint that would import seamlessly into the SubCap effect in Avid. But once I figured it out, I knew what I needed to use going forward. There also does seem to be some sort of glitch where occasionally random lines are missing from the captions in the Avid timeline, but I’m unclear as of right now as to whether I can attribute this to Trint or Avid. It’s a minor error and overall I LOVE this software!

I’ve been using Trint for about 4 years. Often, the individuals I interview have international accents — not your typical Midwestern drawl. We have some industry terms that are used frequently that Trint doesn’t know, so I always have to change them. I wish there was an AI aspect that — once I’ve changed it once or twice — would automatically begin to recognize those terms. Trint sometimes has trouble recognizing the different speaker voices if more than 1 person is in the recorded conversation, so I have to change the speaker name frequently when reviewing a transcript. I was able to correct bad Russian and Japanese translations via using print and then deepl. Perfect combination.

Trint can seem really expensive, relative to other transcription services but it’s genuinely worth every cent, to me. I’m a freelance journalist and in some ways it’s an insane luxury item to be paying for but I’d say I can do twice or maybe three times the amount of work I could without Trint, by using it. Even just being able to throw files into it to come back to, knowing that they’re organised and searchable, means I can make so much more of every interview I get. Takes every car launch or 4-hour presentation and turns it into something I can reference back to easily, especially as something I can carry on my mobile phone. I use interviews as the main basis for my research and it’s incredible to be able to get a draft transcript back from Trint in minutes. Editing of the text is needed to pick up subtle inaccuracies but the interface for doing that work is very easy to use. In the two years I’ve been using Trint, the accuracy has improved substantially, meaning I now spend less time editing. Other improvements too over the past two years have substantially enhanced my work.
