Sonix review summary

Based on 1218 reviews online

Pros

Sonix transcription service is praised for its high accuracy, handling different languages and accents well, user-friendly interface, and efficient processing times. Users appreciate the intuitive editing tools, fast transcriptions, and seamless integrations with other platforms like Zoom. The ability to transcribe and translate into multiple languages is highly valued. Flexible pricing models and a generous free trial are also mentioned positively.

Cons

While Sonix is highly regarded, some users have noted occasional inaccuracies, especially with accents and technical jargon. Speed of transcription can be slower than desired, and the pricing structure could be clearer. A common request is the ability to transcribe live speech and improve international accent recognition.

Accuracy and Language Handling

Sonix consistently provides high accuracy in transcribing different languages and handling various accents.

Occasional Inaccuracies

Some inaccuracies, especially with non-native accents and technical jargon, are reported.

Out of all the AI transcription services I tried, Sonix was the best at accurately identifying who was speaking when in a group meeting, as well as discerning regional accents.
Sometimes, it doesn't detect international accents. It then becomes a tedious task to listen to the entire audio or watch the entire video to correct some words or sentences.

User-Friendly and Efficient

The platform is intuitive and easy to use, speeding up workflows significantly.

Speed of Transcription

A few users mentioned that the transcription speed could be improved.

I love the editing function. Being able to click on a word and have the audio automatically sync with where you've clicked is a very useful feature.
Bit slow, I've loaded 14 interviews and took more than 1 hour.

Flexible and Fair Pricing

Sonix offers various pricing models, including pay-as-you-go, which users find fair and adaptable to their needs.

Unclear Pricing Structure

Some find the pricing structure confusing and suggest a more streamlined approach.

The hourly pricing made it possible to use their service at our modest level.
The pricing is a bit confusing but that is a very minor issue if I can even call it that.

Integration and Additional Features

Seamless integration with platforms like Zoom and features like dictionary functions enhance usability.

Lack of Live Speech-to-Text

Many users desire a live speech-to-text function, which is currently unavailable.

The ease of use of the software is straightforward with no major snags that I can remember. Our team was so impressed with how quickly the transcription was done and accurately upon receiving it.
Sonix cannot support live speech-to-text conversion which is the only dislike that I found about it.

Multiple Language Support

The ability to transcribe and translate in various languages makes it suitable for diverse projects.

Better International Accent Recognition

Improving the recognition of diverse accents is a repeated suggestion.

The ability to see the closed caption in real time and the ease of using this product especially since I am a first-time user.
It sometimes split paragraphs in the middle of a sentence when the speaker paused.

Overall:
It goes beyond transcription. It actually enhances the transcripted dialogue by automatically cutting out all the repeated words as well as all the “hums” “erms” “aahs” which leaves the speaker free to talk naturally. Also, the timestamps for the subtitles are 100% accurate. And The ability to customize pretty much anything is truly handy. But the cherry on top of the cake is that my trial video was bilingual and the AI didn’t miss a beat. My original speech was in Portuguese with words here and there in English and despite the fact that I set up the transcription to Portuguese, all English words were transcribed correctly in English, including capitalization and THAT is waaaay beyond expected. So, to whoever is behind the screen, nice one, people! I’m sure it was a lot of hard work but it certainly paid off. You guys have created the best product on the market by a mile. I couldn’t recommend it more highly!
Pros:
Accuracy in: Transcribing, translating into other languages, splitting subtitles.
Cons:
Just not applicable. So far, it has delivered every single time.

I thought this was a great product. I needed it to transcribe a series of interviews for an oral local history project. I loved the ability to test with free ‘sample’; it is very easy to use; fast response; simple edit facility; fast return of documents; fast upload and download speeds; great value; good quality; sharing function. Above all the quality of the transcription was excellent. I’d definitely recommend Date of experience:

The engine is easy to use and works just fine. Also, the guys and girls working there are always eager to help in case of problems.
What I find particularly endearing is the pricing concept: They offer the possibility to pay for just what you need and do not force you to pay a yearly or monthly subscription.
The only thing missing is that the engine should highlight parts where it is not sure if it transcribed correctly. Date of experience:

As a professional arts and entertainment writer, I do interviews and profiles of artists and performers, often using the Voice Memos app on my iPhone 15 or iCall over the telephone. I needed to find transcription software that was rated highly for accuracy and was also as reasonably priced as possible. It was a relief to find Sonix. I appreciate the ease of use, and being able to edit speaker names and splice words and phrases from my transcribed recordings is invaluable. Date of experience:

What do you like best about Sonix (sonix.ai)?
Upon uploading an audio/video file, it automatically converts into text, and it is pretty accurate. This tool has actually saved my huge time to transcribe any audio and video files manually. Besides, it is also possible to directly upload files from cloud storage app such as Google Drive & Dropbox. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What do you dislike about Sonix (sonix.ai)?
It only allows uploading files to convert them into text, but it does not allow live speech to text conversion. Also, the pricing plan is per hour, which is quite expensive compared to other existing solutions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What problems is Sonix (sonix.ai) solving and how is that benefiting you?
Previously, transcribing audio and video files into the text used to take much time as I had to do it manually, but now with Sonix, it is done automatically. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Overall:
Nothing but good things to say. Highly recommend.
Pros:
The initial trial (which was free and did NOT require any payment information from me in order to try it out), provided more than enough insight into the software’s functionality & quality. From the first upload, Sonix provided me with the most quality transcription I’d ever seen. I’ve tried multiple transcription services in the past; Sonix provided quality results, has an easy to navigate platform, and seamlessly connected with Zoom (my primary method for recording conversations) – an added bonus.
Cons:
One *very* minor complaint is the speed by which recording is transcribed, but for the quality it’s worth the wait. Other than that small thing, there’s really nothing I dislike about the software, but there are a couple of improvements and/or additions I’d like to see. First, a direct recording & transcription function built into the Sonix.ai platform (something like a speech to text function). This would be tremendously useful for me – especially if it extended to a mobile app and/or mobile site (to help capture those “organic” / “on the fly” conversations that happen so often throughout the day). Second (and I’m not sure this is even possible but raising it nonetheless), would be the ability to upload zoom meeting links (to have them transcribed) that I don’t own, but that I have access to.
Switched From:
ZoomInfo Sales
Reasons for Switching to Sonix :
I had been using the transcripts that accompany zoom meetings, but with the number of inaccuracies in the transcripts they were essentially unusable.

What do you like best about Sonix (sonix.ai)?
Sonix answers the need for quality transcription, caption, and translation of video and audio. High points include a clean and organized user interface, user roles and user management, workflows, reporting, and massive dictionary capabilities.
The system’s workflow does require human review to ensure grammar, words, etc., are correct, but the benefit of that is you have better knowledge of your unwritten/unscripted content.
Importantly, when using Sonix for closed-captioning, you can set character length limits and caption display times to automate timestamps for caption display, no manual intervention needed,
The Sonix ‘SEO Player’ is very cool. Rather than showing closed captioning, it displays the transcription beneath the video and highlights the text to keep it in sync with the video.
Sonix is fast and dirt cheap, and their support team take the time to listen and respond. I’ve requested three features that they actually implemented! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What do you dislike about Sonix (sonix.ai)?
Really, nothing at this point. It’s exciting to see the growth of the product. I cannot WAIT to get this Sonix.ai fully integrated within our JAMstack environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What problems is Sonix (sonix.ai) solving and how is that benefiting you?
What’s really cool about Sonix is that, once you have the caption timestamps all aligned and you’re happy with the file, you can translate the content in up to 35+/- languages, and those translations retain the timestamps of the original English version.
Exporting the final result is simple and direct, and easy to manually integrate with videos on Wistia and Vimeo, and you have other options to export transcriptions for various purposes.
Sonix gives you so many possibilities to re-use video content just by producing transcriptions, speaker names, etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Overall:
Couldn’t have been easier. Once we connected our Zoom accounts, it is literally a click of a button to transcribe. We don’t need every meeting transcribed but the auto transcription feature is available. Haven’t really needed to contact support because it just works.
Pros:
It is very easy to setup and use with our Zoom accounts. The pay-as-needed feature is perfect for us as sometimes we need it and sometimes we don’t. I will spin up a zoom meeting and read a draft blog post or other content. With two clicks, have Sonix transcribe the meeting and I saved time on typing! We also have technical meetings that require specific notes from the meetings. It’s nice to not have to pay a monthly or yearly subscription when we won’t use it that often.
Cons:
The entire setup process is very intuitive. It would be great if the transcription picked out the speaker so that when the first speaker is labeled, whenever that person speaks again, the speaker is “guessed” and I would have the ability to adjust as needed. This would save us a lot of time.
Alternatives Considered:
Gong.io
Reasons for Choosing Sonix :
Pay as needed model. I wasn’t sure how much the team would use it and it was very simple to train the team. I’m very happy with our choice.

What do you like best about Sonix (sonix.ai)?
Transcription accuracy even when audio is low quality, and the intuitive editor that pairs A/V with the transcription. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What do you dislike about Sonix (sonix.ai)?
I love everything about this software – nothing to dislike. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Recommendations to others considering Sonix (sonix.ai):
If you need fast, accurate transcription software, give Sonix a try! Added bonus: Sonix’s editing interface is as easy to use as it is clever. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What problems is Sonix (sonix.ai) solving and how is that benefiting you?
Like most people who have better things to do (which is pretty much all of us), I can’t stand the grind of doing manual transcriptions. It’s a frustrating chore: stopping the recording every couple of seconds, entering text into a document, rewinding, playing, writing, etc. As a writer and content manager who charges by the hour, this process was costly to my clients. On top of that, this tedious task was mentally draining.
The first recording that Sonix transcribed for me was poor quality at best, and the software informed me of this, letting me know that the accuracy might not be that high. I was amazed by how accurately its AI captured the text – I estimate it got about 95% of the text right.
The intuitive editing interface is a joy to work with – the video, audio, and transcription text are synced up in a way that allows me to breeze through any minor tweaks to the text.
Sonix gives me more time to do what my clients pay me to do: write and manage content. It’s freed me of a task that impacts my ability to do what I do best – it’s hard to focus and be creative after dragging your mind through hours of manual transcription. On top of that, the efficiency and productivity boosts that I gain translate into significant savings for my clients. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Overall:
They were perfectly nice to us as very small users, although it’s clear that they are set up to handle much higher-capacity projects than ours! The hourly pricing made it possible to use their service at our modest level, and of course I am sharing the information with other people in my field who also need to create .srt files for their videos, so eventually we will be bringing them more business.
Pros:
I love this software. It’s better than any other speech-recognition software I have used, and it doesn’t seem to have much trouble with technical terms, either. Plus, there’s a dictionary function so you can teach it unusual terms you need it to recognize.
Cons:
I would love to be able to use it offline as a downloadable program, but I guess that’s not possible. Note that if you want to not pay for the minutes of “credits music” at the end, you will need to trim the end part of the soundtrack. Lead-in music you need unless you are going to go through the .srt file and time-offset everything.
Switched From:
Google Docs
Reasons for Switching to Sonix :
Much more reliable! Also takes much less time, as you can upload the audio file without having to play it in realtime.

What do you like best about Sonix (sonix.ai)?
I actually found this software because I had so much audio to transcribe and after sitting and attempting to transcribe by rewinding and listening to my audio – I was considering finding an affordable transcriptionist.
I found Sonix.ai and I literally had hours of audio transcribed in MINUTES about FIVE!!!!! MINUTES for HOURSSSS
So yea, very excited about that.
Also love that the transcription comes with audio markers – so if there’s a part that isnt clear, you can just click on the audio and you listen to that specific section instead of having to scroll through the main file searching…
ALSO, you can download the transcription as a WORD document!!!!
ALSOOOO, the price!
It’s quality service at an assessable price.
ALSOOOOO, customer service interaction has been pretty awesome (Thanks TAYLOR!!) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What do you dislike about Sonix (sonix.ai)?
What’s not so great is that the transcription isnt perfect, but honestly it’s good enough. And I can easily just read it, identify where it seems off and then listen and correct.
You definitely have to read through everything though before you share or send off. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Recommendations to others considering Sonix (sonix.ai):
Honestly as a solopreneur who wears so many hats and a measured budget – this has been a real answer to prayers (literally).
If you have audio that you need to transcribe- this is it.
Just make sure that your audio is clear to ensure the best possible results (speaking from experience) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What problems is Sonix (sonix.ai) solving and how is that benefiting you?
Time and money.
IT would have been a significant investment to hire someone to do what this software has done.
Plus, the time I get back is invaluable.
Because I now have this resource, I will be talking through a lot more projects and then simply getting them transcribed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Pros:
Automatically transcribe AND translate into different languages. Really great as a video editor working in multiple languages. Makes it so easy, not many platforms allow you to do that.
Cons:
If you need to transcribe and translate a interview, for example, it costs double- first eats into your credits by transcribing in native language and then again if you choose to translate. It would be great to automatically do that function as one purchase- rather than doubling the cost.
Switched From:
Trint
Reasons for Switching to Sonix :
Trint was slow, unreliable and overall a pain in rear. Working with Sonix has been a breeze since it utilizes AI (which is extremely accurate) so no waiting around for a human transcriber.

I am a journalist and I use Sonix to transcribe interviews. I find the transcriptions very accurate, and the site is user friendly, what with the possibility of listening again to a word or a sentence by pointing to them in the transcription. Overall

Sonix’s transcription service provides high accuracy, robust language handling, and user-friendly features. Many appreciate the intuitive platform and efficient processes, significantly reducing time spent on manual transcription. Flexible pricing options make it accessible, and integration with platforms like Zoom enhances its value. However, expect occasional inaccuracies, especially with non-native accents and technical jargon. Speed might be an issue for larger uploads, and the pricing structure could use simplification. There’s no live speech-to-text function, which many users desire. Overall, if you need a reliable, multi-language transcription service, Sonix is a strong contender. The overall sentiment leans positive, but be prepared for some minor drawbacks.
